2.28. Check of brakes

GENERAL INFORMATION

Prevention

Besides periodic check of a brake it is necessary to check every time at removal of a wheel, or at suspicions for their malfunction.

The system of brakes of the considered cars is equipped with wear sensors with the light alarm system. Fire of a control lamp of brakes indicates the need of immediate replacement of blocks.

Indicate a side drift of the car when braking the need of immediate check of brakes, excessive course of a pedal of a brake, brake pedal pulsation (is the normal phenomenon at operation of the ABS system), liquid dribble.
PERFORMANCE ORDER
Hoses and tubes
1. Lift the car and remove wheels. Check existence on hoses of cracks, swelling and other damages. Check existence of dribbles on unions of tubes and hoses. Replace the damaged details.
Disk brakes
2. Quickly it is possible to check the residual thickness of material of slips on blocks of brakes through a window in a support of a forward brake. If residual thickness at least of one slip less than 2,0 mm, or wear of slips uneven, then replace all four blocks in a set.
3. Check a condition of a disk, having removed a support (see subsection 10.5). At detection of zadir, painted sites (traces of a strong warming up), traces of deep development, remove a disk and a proshlifuyta or replace both disks (see subsection 10.6).
Drum brakes
4. Remove a drum (see subsection 10.7).
5. Check thickness of brake overlays of back blocks and their state. If thickness of glued slips is less than 2,0 mm (or distance from slips to heads of rivets less than 2,0 mm), then replace overlays in a set with an axis. Slips should be replaced also at detection of cracks, glossy surface, or at pollution with brake fluid or lubricant.
6. Check a condition of springs and the mechanism of the regulator.
7. Check existence of traces of dribbles of brake fluid on wheel cylinders for what carefully hook and take away an external sealant of the cylinder.
8. If under a sealant traces of brake fluid are found, then replace the cylinder or a sealant (see subsection 10.8).
9. Check existence on drums of deep development, cracks, furrows and the painted sites. If defects cannot be removed with an emery paper, then drums should be removed and pierced.
Emergency brake
10. The emergency brake should be adjusted if the car does not keep on an abrupt bias (see subsection 10.11).
