3.2.7. Capital repairs – alternatives

GENERAL INFORMATION

At independent performance of capital repairs various options are possible. The defining factor is the condition of the block of cylinders which in some cases is expedient for replacing. Even at satisfactory condition of the block of cylinders it is necessary to otkhonningovat openings under cylinders. In the spare part blocks incomplete (contains the block of cylinders with installed by the krivoshipno-conrod mechanism and pistons) and the block of cylinders of a full complete set are delivered (contains all set of the block of cylinders of an incomplete complete set, and also the oil pump, oil pallet, head of cylinders, valvate and gas-distributing mechanisms, chain or a belt with pulleys, etc.). At an unsatisfactory condition of the krivoshipno-conrod mechanism and block of cylinders more expedient from the point of view of expenses is replacement of worn-out knots and details with the new or restored remkomplekta which are delivered in the spare part by the manufacturer or services of car service.

Other reasons are the repair cost, possibility of access to the equipment of workshops of car service, existence of spare parts, time planned for work, and also personal experience.

Here some of options of performance of capital repairs.

Acquisition of separate spare parts

If check shows that the block of cylinders and the majority of details are in satisfactory condition and can be used further, then the most expedient from the economic point of view is purchase of separate spare parts. The block of cylinders, conrod and piston group and a bent shaft should be surveyed especially carefully. Even if insignificant wear of the block of cylinders is found, cylinders are subject to an obligatory honningovaniye.

Block of cylinders of an incomplete complete set

The block of cylinders of an incomplete complete set contains the block of cylinders with installed by the krivoshipno-conrod mechanism and piston group. All interfaced details are picked up for dimensional groups, all gaps meet standards. On the block the cam-shafts which are not a part of this remkomplekt, valvate mechanism, head of the block of cylinders and hinged units are separately mounted. Costs of machining are minimum or are not required absolutely.

Repair engine (block of cylinders of a full complete set)

The repair engine delivered in the spare part contains all set of the block of cylinders of an incomplete complete set, and also the oil pump, oil pallet, head of the block of cylinders, cover of a head of the block of cylinders, cam-shaft, valvate mechanism, cam-shaft drive gear wheels, gear belt and covers of a belt. All details are established with new bearings, consolidations and laying. On a set only the soaking-up and final collectors and hinged units are mounted.

Carefully think over what of alternatives best of all suits you, before purchase or before execution of the order for spare parts consult in a local workshop of car service, with suppliers of spare parts, and also with specialists in restoration of engines.

Auxiliary elements of the engine – removal

Auxiliary elements of the engine (inlet and final collectors, coupling, spark plugs, distributor of ignition and an oil filter) can be removed separately from the installed engine, but the easiest to carry out this procedure during an engine partition.

Dismantle of the power unit – methods and safety measures

If the decision on dismantle of the engine for carrying out capital repairs, or repair of the main knots was made, then it is necessary to hold certain preparatory activities.

It is extremely important to plan the place in which works will be performed. Undoubtedly, best place is the workshop. It is very important to have the equipped working platform, and also the place for storage of the car. If there is neither workshop, nor a garage, then also the pure concrete or asphalted platform will be required at least equal.

Washing of a motor compartment and the power unit before dismantle will allow to keep the tool clean and the constant working condition.

Also the floor elevator or a telfer will be necessary. Make sure that these devices have a stock on loading capacity and are capable to lift the engine with transmission. Observance of security measures plays here a paramount role as raising of the engine from the car – operation potentially dangerous.

If works on dismantle of the engine are carried out by the inexperienced person, then the assistant is necessary. Consult and ask to help the persons having experience in such works. There is a set of examples of that as attempts to alone execute dismantle of the engine with raising of the last of a motor compartment came to an end unsuccessfully.

In advance plan the actions. Before beginning works hire or buy all necessary tools and the equipment. To some devices ensuring safety at dismantle and installation of the engine, and also decrease in labor costs the jack cart of sufficient loading capacity, full set of keys and mandrels, wooden blocks, rags and solvent for cleaning of inevitable pools from the spilled working liquids of the engine belong (besides the elevator). If the elevator is hired, then agree about it in advance, having performed all works in which this mechanism is not required. It will allow to save money and time.

Keep in mind that considerable time you will not be able to use the car. For performance of some works inaccessible in house conditions due to the lack of the special equipment, it is necessary to address in a workshop of car service. These enterprises work according to the schedule and will be expedient to consult there before dismantle of the engine precisely to estimate expenses of time for repair and restoration of details.

Always at dismantle and installation of the power unit be very attentive. Rash actions can be the cause of serious injuries. In advance consider the actions. Do not feel sorry on it for time because the main thing – work without injuries.
